Determining the cost of liposuction is an important factor when deciding on a liposuction surgeon. As important as prices are, I cannot stress enough the danger of price shopping when it comes to any surgery. The ultimate goal of surgery is to achieve the patient’s desired outcome with the lowest possible risk of side effects or complications. Keeping that in mind, it’s always important to remember that a surgeon’s expertise and experience are far more crucial to consider than the price of any surgery.

Your body and your well-being are worth more than any discounted price.

Liposuction Costs

There are many factors that make up the cost of liposuction surgery. Typically the price includes a non-surgical fee (cost of operating room, nurses, lab tests, supplies, etc) as well as the actual surgical fee.

The actual fee for surgery may be based on the patient’s size or size of area(s) being treated, amount of time and effort involved in the surgery and cost of anesthesiologist.

The experience of the plastic surgeon and the geographic location can also affect the price tag. In geographic areas where rents and labor costs are high, such as New York City, one can expect higher prices for liposuction.

Financing Liposuction Surgery

Since the majority of liposuction surgeries are considered cosmetic, and therefore ‘non essential’, insurance will not cover the cost. Your surgeon, however, can review with you your options for financing your surgery through private finance companies.

To learn more about liposuction costs in NJ, call the Lombardi Plastic Surgery Center at 732-460-9555.

I see many people in my practice who are considering liposuction surgery for the wrong reasons. Liposuction is not a procedure to achieve dramatic weight loss, liposuction is intended to remove stubborn areas of localized fat.

For the best results from your liposuction surgery, you should receive your surgery when you have lost any excess weight (not localized fat deposits) that you would like to lose and you are at your ideal weight. This will allow your surgeon to determine which areas need to be treated.

Additionally, if you have an excess amount of weight to lose, you may no longer be a candidate for liposuction surgery after you have lost all of your weight. Individuals whose skin has lost its elasticity due to dramatic weight losses are not ideal candidates for liposuction. There are other procedures that can help you resolve loose and sagging skin. Liposuction will not address this problems and can even make it worse.

Therefore, I recommend going for your liposuction surgery when you are at your ideal weight. This will allow for the greatest results from your procedure.

Deciding whether or not to have liposuction surgery is a big decision. I recommend meeting with several plastic surgeons, and having a good understanding of what your results are likely to be.

Should you choose Liposuction or a “Tummy Tuck”? A lot will depend on the condition of your muscles and skin. If you have loose abdominal skin, you should probably avoid liposuction. Your skin may not improve with the procedure, in fact, for some, it can become worse.

In my NJ plastic surgery center, I see patients almost every day who come in for a liposuction, consultation but because of loose skin in the abdominal area, they are not a good candidate. When fat is removed, the skin over that area has to shrink, so if it lacks elasticity and tone it isn’t going to adapt to the new contours created by a liposuction procedure. A person can find themselves trading one problem (localized fat) for another (hanging or uneven skin).

If you have a ‘globular’ appearance to your abdomen as a result of abdominal fascia weakness, liposuction will not improve that condition. A tummy tuck is a better choice in this case because it addresses skin and abdominal wall laxity, as well as excess fat.

It has gotten more difficult for patients to sort out the claims recently because laser liposuction and other types of techniques are being offered as alternatives to tummy tucks and avoids the scars and the longer recovery. There is some evidence that the laser can tighten the skin a little bit, but not enough to replace tummy tucks for those who would be a candidates for this procedure anyway.

Deciding whether or not to have liposuction surgery is a big decision. I recommend meeting with several plastic surgeons, and having a good understanding of what your results are likely to be.

Last year alone there were more than 198,000 liposuction procedures performed – 19% more than the previous year. Ages of those patients were 13-19 — 3,179; ages 20-29 – 30,023; ages 30-39 – 64,578; age 40-plus – 79,231.

There has also been a steady increase in liposuction procedures for men. Although 89 % of liposuction procedures in 2009 were on women, 22,301 surgeries were done on men – up 18% from the previous year.

Revision liposuction

or corrective liposuction can help restore the results from a previous liposuction surgery that was perhaps performed incorrectly. During revision liposuction, one of several techniques may be used to correct a specific problem. Conditions that may lead a patient to consider revision liposuction surgery include:

Inconsistency

In the case of inconsistency, a surgeon has failed to perfect body proportion and the patient is now storing fat in unbalanced ways. You may notice areas of your body appear larger after the surgery than before. This may be due to disproportionate body fat storage as a result of surgeon error. These inconsistencies can be improved by with revision liposuction to create a proportioned and balanced shape.

Indentations, rippling, and ridging of the skin

Rippling of the skin can be caused by a surgeon that was too aggressive during surgery. Excessive poking or scratching of the underneath part of the skin during surgery or performing the liposuction surgery in the wrong direction can lead to rippling of the skin. There are a few techniques that can improve the appearance of skin that is now indented or rippling. Revision liposuction usually needs to be performed again to smooth out the skin. Additionally, a fat transfer may be needed to fill in larger ripples where too much fat was taken. At times, a skin tightening procedure such as Thermage may help the skin to lay flat again.

Irregular Results

Other wise known as asymmetry, this is when one area of the body is larger than its symmetrical counter-part. This is very easy to improve by performing revision liposuction to the full side, bringing it back into proportion with the smaller side.

Too much fat taken

The best way to perform a liposuction surgery is to be conservative. It is easier to go back and remove a little more. It’s very difficult, even for an expert, to make things perfect again. In the case of an overly aggressive liposuction surgery, improvements can be seen with the use of fat grafting and skin tightening procedures. This is one of the more difficult of the revision liposuction surgeries to perform. This is why I recommend comprehensive consultations with your plastic surgeon to ensure that you are both seeing eye-to-eye on the anticipated results.

I received an email recently from a reader who asked an excellent question: Does liposuction improve your health? It’s an interesting question and one that requires a little bit of explanation.

As we all know, fat is bad for the body and for our health. However, body fat is stored in different ways, including subcutaneous versus visceral. Subcutaneous fat is stored directly beneath the skin, and women have more of this type than men. When subcutaneous fat is concentrated in certain areas of the body, it can lead to cellulite. Liposuction can remove subcutaneous fat. The good news is, subcutaneous fat is not associated with serious health risks, and it is not a risk factor for type 2 diabetes, even though there may be an excess amount in the midsection.

Deep belly fat is called visceral fat. Visceral fat poses a serious health risk because it lies beneath the layer of muscle and surrounds the organs. When it accumulates, it causes a variety of harmful metabolic effects, including insulin resistance which leads to Type 2 Diabetes. Thus, ridding the body of deep abdominal fat is a good way to avoid insulin resistance and to improve overall health. Unfortunately, Liposuction can not remove visceral fat.

Although liposuction can not help remove visceral fat or reduce your risk of type 2 diabetes, liposuction can help remove excess fat and contour the body, improving self confidence. I have found that many of my patients who have undergone liposuction surgery subsequently adopted a healthier lifestyle in order to maintain their pleasing results. Adopting a healthier lifestyle including modifications to one’s diet and increases in exercise can be very beneficial for long-term health.

The cost of Liposuction is based on many factors including area or areas of the body being treated, type of liposuction being performed, whether or not anesthesia is required and length of time spent in the operating room.

Cost of Liposuction is an important factor when considering liposuction surgery in NJ. However the quality of liposuction is more important than the price of liposuction. If The surgeon’s expertise and experience are probably more important than the price. Liposuction prices are important, but it is not the most important factor when considering lipo surgery.

The range of prices for liposuction surgery can begin under $2,000 for smaller areas of the body such as the outer thighs, hips, neck/jowls, areas of the back, arms, etc. Liposuction for larger areas of the body including the entire abdomen area, entire back, and buttocks can range from $4,000 to $7,000.

Again, many factors will influence the cost of liposuction surgery and there are many different types of liposuction surgery to consider.

After liposuction, your body will gain weight and store fat differently then it did before surgery. Provided the weight gain is not substantial, most of the time little to no weight will be gained in the areas where the liposuction surgery was performed. So what does that mean for the rest of the body? Here are a few of the most asked questions regarding gaining weight after liposuction.

1) Can fat come back to treated areas after liposuction?

Typically, fat does not come back to areas treated by liposuction, provided that the patient does not gain a substantial amount of weight. However, as we age, it is common for the size and location of body fat deposits to change. However, even with these changes, the areas treated by liposuction should maintain the results achieved after surgery.

2) What if I gain weight after liposuction surgery?

Weight gain after liposuction may not completely erase the results achieved, if the amount of weight gained is minimal, 10-15 lbs. The cosmetic results achieved after liposuction may still be pleasing after weight gain, however, they will be less than what the patient previously desired. Typically, when patients gain weight after liposuction surgery, there clothes may still fit better and they still look better than they did before the liposuction was performed. Ideally, a patient who has had liposuction will weigh less after surgery and maintain a reduced weight. This will provide the best long-term results.

3) What if I get pregnant after liposuction?

If a woman becomes pregnant after the results of her liposuction surgery have been achieved, the results will not be erased. If a woman gains weight during pregnancy and then loses the excess weight after giving birth, then her original liposuction results will return to where they had been before she became pregnant.

Q: How much does tummy tuck cost?

A: Each case is individually priced based on the length of the procedure and amount of time spent in the operating room. A fair estimate will be approximately $6,000 for a full tummy tuck which includes the surgeon’s fee, anesthesia and facility fee.

Q: Will I have visible scars from a tummy tuck?

A: Yes, there is always a visible scar. It is usually concealable in a bathing suit or in panties. Some people heal very nicely, others will have a more visible scar. All tummy tuck scars require at least 1-2 years for greatest improvement.

Q: How much weight can I lose from tummy tuck surgery?

A: Weight loss is based on the person’s pre-operative weight and body habitus. It is less than most people actually expect and it usually totals less than 5 lbs, but the improvement of appearance makes it appear that there was a great weight loss.

Q: How long does Tummy tuck surgery swelling last?

A: Swelling usually lasts 3-6 months, it is necessary to wear compression garments for the first 4-8 weeks. This will help to minimize post operatively swelling.

Q: How much can I exercise after a tummy tuck?

A: In my practice, I encourage light exercise at approximately 3 weeks post surgery. Exercise is increased as tolerated and full activity is usually instituted at 10-12 weeks.
Patients should be both medically and physically healthy prior to the procedure. Extreme weight loss prior to any surgical procedure is detrimental to the post operative healing phase. I recommend all patients to exercise as much as possible in the weeks before surgery and to eat a balanced healthy diet.

Both implants have the identical exterior silicone shell. The silicone shell is very durable and is considered one of the least reactive substances to the human body. Saline implants are placed deflated and then filled after they are inserted, so they can be placed through a smaller incision and can be adjusted in volume at the time of your procedure. The solution used to fill the saline implants is the same salt water used for intravenous fluids.

Silicone implants come prefilled from the manufacturer with cohesive gel silicone.

Silicone implants require a larger incision and cannot be adjusted in volume intra-operatively.
