Revision Liposuction

Revision liposuction
or corrective liposuction can help restore the results from a previous liposuction surgery that was perhaps performed incorrectly. During revision liposuction, one of several techniques may be used to correct a specific problem. Conditions that may lead a patient to consider revision liposuction surgery include:
Inconsistency
In the case of inconsistency, a surgeon has failed to perfect body proportion and the patient is now storing fat in unbalanced ways. You may notice areas of your body appear larger after the surgery than before. This may be due to disproportionate body fat storage as a result of surgeon error. These inconsistencies can be improved by with revision liposuction to create a proportioned and balanced shape.
Indentations, rippling, and ridging of the skin
Rippling of the skin can be caused by a surgeon that was too aggressive during surgery. Excessive poking or scratching of the underneath part of the skin during surgery or performing the liposuction surgery in the wrong direction can lead to rippling of the skin. There are a few techniques that can improve the appearance of skin that is now indented or rippling. Revision liposuction usually needs to be performed again to smooth out the skin. Additionally, a fat transfer may be needed to fill in larger ripples where too much fat was taken. At times, a skin tightening procedure such as Thermage may help the skin to lay flat again.
Irregular Results
Other wise known as asymmetry, this is when one area of the body is larger than its symmetrical counter-part. This is very easy to improve by performing revision liposuction to the full side, bringing it back into proportion with the smaller side.
Too much fat taken
The best way to perform a liposuction surgery is to be conservative. It is easier to go back and remove a little more. It’s very difficult, even for an expert, to make things perfect again. In the case of an overly aggressive liposuction surgery, improvements can be seen with the use of fat grafting and skin tightening procedures. This is one of the more difficult of the revision liposuction surgeries to perform. This is why I recommend comprehensive consultations with your plastic surgeon to ensure that you are both seeing eye-to-eye on the anticipated results.
