What is the best alternative to a face lift?

Q: Rather than get a face lift I would prefer a nonsurgical treatment. What do the doctors say works best for sag in jowls and loose neck skin?”

A: There is no substitute for a face lift.

Depending on the tone and condition of  the patient’s skin and age a total face lift may not be required.

In the thirties to mid forties to reduce and fill wrinkles fillers like Botox,  Restylane, and Radiesse, can be used. Laser resurfacing is also a way to smooth the skin and reduce lines.  In the mid to late forties and beyond fillers will most likely not be enough to reduce significant folds or lines in the skin.

For significant sagging jowls, deep wrinkles, and loose neck skin a surgical lower lift is recommended.

Most patients who decide to have this surgery are age forty five to fifty five.

During a lower face lift, underlying connective and muscle tissue known as the SMAS are lifted, the facial skin is tightened and the excess skin is removed.  The procedure usually takes about three hours and can be performed under general or local anesthesia.

Patients are back  to work in the swing of their normal activities in one to two weeks.
Your doctor may also suggest a neck lift, a forehead lift or a mid face lift if needed.
